Human Rights are rights of persons to freedom of speech and conscience, equal treatment, work and health, among others, as defined in Universal Declaration adopted by the UN in 1948, supplemented by 1960s Covenants on social, economic, political, and civil rights. In ours words, we believe Human Rights is everybody's right to a “Fair Go”. We believe if Human Rights were the norm, then everybody would have the opportunity to work hard to create a better life for themselves and their families. We provide our Human Rights In Focus section, so that people can keep up to date with current Human Rights news, while having resources to help them learn more about this most important subject.

In pursuit of this vision, AI’s mission is to undertake research and action focused on preventing and ending grave abuses of the rights to physical and mental integrity, freedom of conscience and expression, and freedom from discrimination, within the context of its work to promote all human rights. AI is independent of any government, political ideology, economic interest or religion. It strives to ensure that everyone can exercise the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge in another State, with the option to return home voluntarily, integrate locally or to resettle in a third country.
