Bristol Rovers completed another impressive scalp at the Mem, beating in-form side Bolton Wanderers 3-2 three days after their 1-0 win over Huddersfield Town, extending their gap above the relegation zone to nine points with 10 games to go.
It was a dream start for Rovers as Kofi Shaw, on just his second league start for the club, was brought down by Alex Murphy within five minutes, winning his side an early penalty. Chris Martin stepped up and slotted cooly past ex-Cheltenham Town goalkeeper Luke Southwood to hand his side the lead.
However, Bolton started to flex their muscles and show why they were the league's form side with ex-Gas favourite Aaron Collins going close on a few occasions, forcing a good save from Jed Ward.
Eventually, Rovers' resistance was broken before half-time as Aaron Morley capitalised on poor defending from a corner to fire home a deserved equaliser.
The Gas started the second half the stronger of the two sides with Shaw and Ruel Sotiriou forced saves from Southwood before the two combined in the build-up before setting up Martin for his second of the match.
Frustratingly, Bolton pegged their hosts back from a corner once again as John McAtee got the final touch.
Rovers ended the game on top though and eventually got their just rewards as substitute Isaac Hutchinson delivered a free-kick towards the back-post, headed in by the towering Connor Taylor with the goal ending up being the winner.
Here's how we rated the players on the night...
Jed Ward - 7.5
Excellent dealing with aerial deliveries from open play but will be frustrated to concede twice and both from corners. Made an outstanding save against Aaron Collins in the first half on a good night for him and his team.
James Wilson - 7
Again, conceding two goals with both being from corners is especially frustrating but the defender was pretty solid throughout. Still yet to miss a league minute this season which is quite incredible.
Connor Taylor - 8
Not his first goal since returning to Rovers as a permanent player but the big defender hasn't had a moment like that yet, scoring a late winner in a massive league game in front of the Thatcher's End. Just brilliant.
Defensively great too. A crucial header against his old teammate Aaron Collins in the first half with the forward lurking in the penalty area.
Sil Swinkels - 7.5
Particularly impressive in the first half, making some major interceptions, challenges and clearances. Will be disappointed to concede two goals along with a few other good chances that Bolton squandered but is looking like an outstanding addition to the backline.
Joel Senior (off for Isaac Hutchinson 76') - 6.5
A decent showing from the right-back in place of Jack Hunt. Some lovely link-up moments and made a couple of decent interceptions. A couple of crosses down his side got past him but one of his better displays in a Rovers shirt.
Clinton Mola (off for Lino Sousa 83') - 6.5
After an outstanding display on Saturday, the left wing-back had a first half to forget as he looked leggy in moments and saw a header from a corner fall to Aaron Morley for Bolton's first goal. A much improved second half saw the 23-year-old go close to scoring while looking lively in the final third.
Taylor Moore (off for Luke Thomas 83') - 7
Deserved his start after Saturday and, once again, didn't look out of place in the middle of the park. A few odd frustrating touches but overall a good display in the middle.
Matt Butcher - 7
Seemed to get slightly more involved in attacking play and produced one of his most lively displays in blue-and-white quarters and also made some important interventions defensively.
Kofi Shaw (off for Shaq Forde 83') - 8
A really strong display on his second league start for Bristol Rovers. The 18-year-old won his side a penalty within five minutes and dazzled whenever he had the ball. Denied a first league goal for the Gas by two saves from Luke Southwood, what was really impressive and somewhat surprising about the teenager's display was his defensive contribution, making a perfectly-timed challenge in his own penalty area on George Thomason in the first half. Also did well in the build-up to Chris Martin's second goal.
Ruel Sotiriou - 7.5
Firstly, deserves to be commended for playing 90 minutes so soon after a hard-working display on Saturday. Guilty of some poor decision making at times and should have scored in the second half but produced a brilliant pass for Chris Martin for Rovers' second. Lively all night too, excellent workrate.
Chris Martin (off for Scott Sinclair 71') - 9
Goals number four and five for the striker who wasn't expected to return as quickly as this evening after missing Saturday's win over Huddersfield Town with a slight knee knock. A lovely penalty and a top finish for his second but brought off before he had the chance to complete his hattrick.
